What are Digital Unite Community Programmes?
A Digital Unite Community Programme (DUCP) is both a process and a piece of software. It allows trainers, learners and other stakeholders involved in digital literacy projects to work towards an end point through the very training they are involved in; the construction of a website for that group of learners, by those learners.
Digital Unite is about communal learning. Each group of learners – residents in a specific community– choose how their individual website will reflect the interests and character of their community. The website which ensues can be used by residents to communicate internally, it can be used by Community Managers as a place to publicise news and events; it can be used by landlords to communicate with, promote to or even survey residents.
DUCPs have five key elements: resident and community engagement, basic IT training, website training, learning support and ‘online community building support’ – yes, we know that’s a mouthful!
You can have a look at the communities participating by selecting an icon to go to that Community's site.
Only registered users at each Community can actually post or contribute to their website.
Here is a Resident's View of Digital Unite...
...'these websites can be accessed by any member of the public. Digital Unite Communities is an informative web-site. Surfing on a web-site will give any individual wanting to move into a sheltered home [for example] a clearer picture of the area where the home is, details of surroundings, the amenities that are easily available and the activities taking place in the home.'
