What is Digital Unite?

Digital Unite is a new way for like-minded people in sheltered housing to keep in touch with each other, share experiences and generally have fun. St Vincent’s schemes taking part in Digital Unite are:-

• Khubsuret House, Rochdale
• Margaret Ward Court, Rochdale
• Alice Ingham Court, Rochdale
• Swithun Wells Court, Little Hulton
• Vincent Court, Bolton
• Dunstan Court, Moston
• Charles Forbes Court, Warrington
• Thomas Garnet Court, Farnworth
• Alexandra Briant Court, Farnworth
• Plessington Court, Longridge

Why should I get involved?

Keep active, keep young! This is a contribution from Sid King, resident at Alice Ingham Court in Rochdale:-

“One of the privileges of old age is to relate experiences that nobody will believe, and give advice that no one will follow”.

Keeping in touch with the outside world opens up a host of new possibilities. The Digital Unite experience will tell you about:-

• Social events at yours, and other, schemes
• Items for sale
• New friends (on-line and off)
• Links to useful websites, giving information, advice, games, tips and leisure interests
• Get together with your neighbours and do ‘on-line shopping’
• More contact with St Vincent’s staff

How do I get involved?

The first thing to do is have a good look at the Digital Unite site, you will see just how much there is to benefit you. Talk to your IT Volunteer and ask for a password. If you don’t know who this is, ask your Scheme Manager.

If you like what you see, find out whom else is already involved, and encourage your friends and neighbours to get involved too.

What can I expect from Digital Unite?

• Learning new skills and keeping active
• Discovering new opportunities
• Making new friends
• Discovering what’s ‘out there’ without leaving the communal lounge
About our area
The Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, includes not only the town of Rochdale but also Middleton, Heywood, Littleborough, Milnrow and Wardle, each of which retains its own separate identity and character.

Between and around the towns and villages are vast expanses of open space. Dominating the skyline to the north and east of the Borough are spectacular views of open moorland along the magnificent Pennine edge while to the south and west are pleasant river valleys, woodlands and meadows.

The Borough has much to offer the people of the area and visitors alike. The high quality of life includes a wide choice of places to live at a reasonable cost; interesting local heritage, attractive countryside, a varied multi-racial culture and a thriving business community. And one of the area's greatest attributes is its friendly, down-to-earth people.
